JANUARY 9TH SPEAKER (LIVE VIA SKYPE): Dr. Saray Stancic MD

Dr. Stancic is a board certified physician, fellowship trained in infectious diseases, and the founder of Stancic Health and Wellness, LLC where she practices Lifestyle Medicine.

In 1995, as a third year medical resident, Dr. Stancic was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. This unforeseen health challenge changed the course of her life, both professionally and personally. After scouring the existing medical research in search of answers, she found out about the power of a whole-food plant-based diet and felt compelled to personally adopt the lifestyle.

Over the years that followed, she felt stronger and energized. Remarkably, after years of difficulty walking unassisted, her neurological deficits gradually improved. She felt renewed and infused with a great sense of hope. She decided to take up jogging, which evolved to running. In the spring of 2010 She ran a marathon. It was truly an extraordinary experience.

Today, her focus is educating patients on the value of a whole-food, plant-based diet, with an eye toward reducing prescription drug dependence.

She says, “Patients need to learn that they do have control of their individual health outcomes. We can, as a society, shift and make the necessary changes to improve our health and well-being.  Life can change in a moment … and that can be a very wonderful thing.”

Dr Stancic received her M.D. degree from New Jersey Medical School in 1993. She completed an Internal Medicine residency and served as Chief Medical resident at University Hospital and went on to complete a fellowship in Infectious Diseases.

From 1999 to 2006, she served as Chief of Infectious Diseases at the Hudson Valley Veterans Administration Hospital in New York. During those years she treated hundreds of patients with viral hepatitis and HIV as well as other infectious diseases with a multidisciplinary approach to support her patients’ overall well-being.

Beyond her responsibilities as an Infectious Disease physician, researcher, and Chief of Infection Control, she directed the MOVE program, a federal VA initiative to encourage healthy lifestyles in veterans.

She has also authored several research papers in peer-reviewed medical journals.
